Our final week has arrived and it's a busy one!
Fifth graders:  Please remember to come prepared for our Boardwalk trip tomorrow.  We will leave school at about 10:15 and will returning at 3:30.  Please remember to have your transportation home arranged.

Sixth graders:  Promotion practice begins at 8:15 on Wednesday.  The promotion ceremony is at 5:30.

Fifth and sixth graders:  Remember to turn in your beach clean-up permission form for our trip on Thursday morning and your $5 for pizza, drinks and goodies for when we return.  I need to collect money ASAP so we know how much pizza to order.  Thanks!

These final two weeks of school are chock full of events!  The 6th graders will be going to International Games this Thursday and to Camp Koinonia on Friday.  The 5th graders will be going on the annual 5th grade Boardwalk trip next Tuesday.  Finally, everyone will participate in the beach clean-up scheduled for June 7.  The other 6th grade classes will be ordering pizza that day, and my class is excited about doing this as well.  The cost for this is $5 per student.  I know this is a lot at an already busy time of year and truly appreciate your involvement!

Hello everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed the spring break. It was certainly nice to relax and recharge a bit!
We have some busy weeks ahead of us as we work on projects and prepare for the state testing. I handed out the guidelines for the final book report for both 5th and 6th (different reports) which we started in class today. We will work on these as much as is reasonably possible in class, and I will set due dates for different parts of the report over the next few weeks. The final reports are due on Thurs., 5/3.
I'm stressing how important it is for everyone to keep track of due dates both in their planners and on this blog. I've included some other important dates to be aware of below.

I sent home corrected work today, so please check in with your child regarding this. I haven't finished evaluating the short stories but hope to have this completed by the end of the week. As this is the final week of the second trimester, it is important that everyone turns in any missing work as soon as possible. I will be reviewing my grade book today and will (after speaking with the students) send home missing work notices tomorrow.

I have scheduled our Elementary Law court date for Tuesday, March 27. We will be working with a local attorney, Robert Wall, who is very excited to be leading us through the justice process. Both grades will participate in our "cookie court" play at the Watsonville Courthouse. Everyone is invited to come watch. It's very educational and a lot of fun!

The 5th grade Valentine's Day Breakfast was a great success. Thanks so much to everyone who worked hard to make this event possible.

Mrs. Mitchener, our math specialist, talked to everyone today about the annual county math contest which will take place on Saturday, May 5th. She brought information sheets, but as I had so many interested students, I could only send them home with my 5th graders today. I'll hand out copies to my 6th graders tomorrow. I'm very pleased with their enthusiastic response!

This is a big week for my 6th graders as science fair projects and speeches are due. The science fair projects will be judged this Thursday and all are welcomed to view the projects Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00. Please come!
***We still need parent volunteers to judge the projects, so please let me know if you can do so.

My 5th graders will be going to UCSC for the Life Lab field trip this Friday. Thank you to all parents who have offered to drive. We will leave school at 9:15 on Friday morning and will return by 1:30.

Also, the annual 5th Grade Valentine's Day Breakfast will be held on Feb. 14 in the MPR. The 5th grade teachers are holding a short meeting this Wed. afternoon at 1:00 in my classroom to discuss and plan. If you are interested in helping us organize this event, please attend. Thank you!
