It was so nice to meet all of you at Back to School Night last week. I know there just wasn't enough time to personally speak with each of you, but I invite you to stop by the classroom after school any day for a chat or send me an email with any questions or concerns you may have. I sent home corrected work today which I will do on most Mondays or Tuesdays. If your child is missing any work from the previous week, I will include a yellow half sheet indicating which assignment(s) has not been turned in.  If your child receives one of these, please review it with her or him, sign it and return it to school.  I encouraged everyone who received a missing work sheet to turn in the assignment and receive credit for it.  Thanks!

My students had their first art class today.  I sent home a letter from Ms. Towles that gives an overview of what she will be offering.  She would like you to fill out the form and send it back to school.  Thanks.

I assigned math homework tonight which is found in the Home Connections book of our new math program.  If your child is not sure how to do any of the problems, please do not worry.  I will review the assignment with them tomorrow and reteach if necessary.  I will be going over the new program with you next Tuesday evening at Back-To-School Night.

We had another good day as we began our first full week of school.  It's been fun getting to know everyone!

I sent home Scholastic Book Club order forms today.  If you would like purchase any books, you may send in the form with your child or choose books and pay for them online.  You can also find other catalogues (like Tab) on the Scholastic Books website and can order from these as well.  My class access code is GNZFR.   I'll be sending in our first class order in about 2 weeks. We had a great first day. I have a wonderful group of students, all very respectful and motivated. I am looking forward to a great year with them!

I sent home the beginning-of-the-year packet today.  It contains important information regarding school policies, rules and internet use. You will also find your child's yellow emergency card enclosed. Please fill this out and return it to school as soon as possible. Thanks!

I plan to update my blog each day with information regarding homework, projects and important school news, so please check it regularly. Your child will also be recording homework assignments in his/her planner. Unless otherwise noted, homework is due the following day.

Hello and welcome back!

I hope you all enjoyed a happy and fun-filled summer. I'm looking forward to beginning a new school year and to meeting all my new students.

Here is a list of the supplies I would like my 5th grade students to have:

*one small three-ring binder
*binder paper
*two spiral notebooks - single subject/wide ruled
*two twin pocket folders (paper ones are fine)
*several #2 pencils
*set of colored pencils
*personal pencil sharpener
*two of each - blue and red ball point pens
*small scissors
*American Heritage or other college level paperback dictionary
*a chapter book for silent reading time

Once school begins, I will post a blog each day, keeping everyone updated on homework assignments and important events.
